(1) What's your favorite fast food establishment? I'm not big on fast food, though it does come in handy on nights I don't feel like cooking. I do enjoy a good sandwich from a deli, I guess for true fast food, I'd have to go with Zaxby's. They have great chicken tenders, salads, and fries.

(3) Do you like mushrooms and onions?  Yuck! Absolutely not! I have this uncontrollable gag reflex thing to onions; completely uncontrollable. and I don't like spiders and snakes♪  (Jim Stafford)

 (2) What's your favorite sport to watch on TV?  synchronized swimming, of course! I get fired up over some synchronized swimming! (okay, so not really. Of course, it's football that I like best!)

Norah Jones' Featuring Music Review

"Featuring," the new album by Norah Jones that released on November 16, 2010, highlights the artist's versatility.   The collection of songs include classics as well as Norah Jones originals recorded with various artists throughout her career.

Although I don't consider myself a Norah Jones fan, I do respect her work, and have listened to her on occasion. I enjoy the sultry smooth sounds of her voice, but consider her to be more in the "wine sipping, jazz club" genre. I was very impressed by the diversity of this album, and was pleasantly surprised to hear that Norah is much more than just another pretty voice singing "music to relax to."

This album includes everything from country to jazz, to pop to yes, even hip hop. It is a virtual representation of who's who in music. Some of the great songs on "Featuring" include the classic, and perfect for the holidays: "Baby it's Cold Outside" with, one of my favorite artists, Willie Nelson I really can't stay, Baby it's cold outside
and I couldn't help but love the sound of the late great Ray Charles on "Here We Go Again."

The Dirty South is represented with Outkast, and even the Foo Fighters make an appearance in this celebrity party.

One of the songs that I found really hanging around in my head was "Life is Better" by Q-tip, a hip hop tune with a catchy chorus Life is better now, now that I've  found you

Check out this track listing:

1. Love Me – The Little Willies
2. Virginia Moon – The Foo Fighters featuring Norah Jones
3. Turn Them – Sean Bones featuring Norah Jones
4. Baby It's Cold Outside – Willie Nelson featuring Norah Jones
5. Bull Rider – Norah Jones and Sasha Dobson
6. Ruler Of My Heart – Dirty Dozen Brass Band featuring Norah Jones
7. The Best Part – El Madmo
8. Take Off Your Cool – OutKast featuring Norah Jones
9. Life Is Better – Q-Tip featuring Norah Jones
10. Soon The New Day – Talib Kweli featuring Norah Jones
11. Little Lou, Prophet Jack, Ugly John – Belle & Sebastian featuring Norah Jones
12. Here We Go Again – Ray Charles featuring Norah Jones
13. Loretta – Norah Jones featuring Gillian Welch and David Rawlings
14. Dear John – Ryan Adams featuring Norah Jones
15. Creepin' In – Norah Jones featuring Dolly Parton
16. Court & Spark – Herbie Hancock featuring Norah Jones
17. More Than This – Charlie Hunter featuring Norah Jones
18. Blue Bayou – Norah Jones featuring M. Ward

I really enjoyed this album. It's sure to be a hit with any Norah Jones fan as well as people that appreciate a variety of music. If you're looking for your typical slow jazz style album, this may not be the best fit for you, but, I recommend giving it a try, with this much diversity there's sure to be something that catches your ear.

Tuesdays Gone Blog Hop #5

I was so busy baking for the feast at work tomorrow, that I almost forgot to post my blog hop! Which would have been bad, but what would've been worse is if I forgot I was baking because I was posting a blog hop. Monday Minute: Books, Pets and Undies

1) What's your all time favorite book? This is so hard, I'm such a freakin' bibliophile! I just can't get enough of any of them. Let's just go with the dictionary because it's got all the words that are in the other books I love. Tell me who, who wrote the book of love (The Monotones)
(2) What are your pets names? Marilyn: the cat, Dublin: the dog, Dawson: the puppy, Captain Spaulding: the albino Oscar

(3) What kind of undies do you prefer (thong, briefs, boxer briefs...choose depending on your sex)? That's exactly how I choose! It depends on sex, and if I'm planning on having any. not everybody does it but everybody should (George Michael)

(4) If you could go back in life, what would you now chose to do for a living? I used to manage a shoe store and I loved every minute of it, except there were too many minutes of it. I was at the store, so much I never saw my family. But, if I could go back I would have loved to stick it out long enough to become a buyer. What fun it would have been going to shoe shows, and spending the company's money! And, it would have been M-F! I got to go back in time (Huey Lewis)
(5) Do you hit snooze in the morning? No, I don't have to; hubby does it for me.

Have a great Monday!

The Empty Space Above My Shoulders

We'll call this my super uber lame post. The one where I don't write about anything. I can't even call it a fragmented post because for that I would need to have fragmented thoughts and I've just been to busy. And because I've been so busy it seems I've misplaced my head. I just had it the other day, but I don't remember what I did with it. I really should have attached it to my shoulders, but, I forgot. What can I say? I'm forgetful, and now look what's happened. So, while I try to claw my way to the top of this pile of work, could you kindly keep an eye out for my head? I'd love to have it back again. In the mean time I hope you have a happy Friday!

A Pirate Girl's Fight

I'm standing at the crossroads, in life, and I don't know where to go. (Pirates of the Mississippi)

I'm part of a Krewe, a krewe of Pirate girls. I like being a pirate girl, and not just because it gives me an excuse to wear a corset. I like being a pirate girl because it's fun, rewarding, and I get to spend time with some fabulous women. But, as all things must change with time, the krewe has changed, and, so have I.

I joined the krewe to be a part of something, to give back to community, and to have a damn good time doing it. I have made some amazing friends in this krewe, and I have recently brought in one of my dearest friends to be a part of this great organization. Yet, I feel torn. Nothing's fine, I'm torn (Natalie Imbruglia)

Something is very different. There is a snake within our group; a cancer that is spreading evil vindictiveness, and doing so with a smile. Politics have snuck into our sisterhood, and it threatens to destroy us all! Well, okay, maybe that's a little dramatic, but things are very different.

I'm torn between fighting for things to be right, or just walking away. The idealist in me wants to stand and fight, to tear down the red tape, and make things as good as they were and as great as they can be, but the realist in me questions if it's worth the stress of the battle.

Our primary focus used to be on the good of the community; on making plans to give back. Now, we make plans that lie in self gratification and merely tag along on others charitable events. We are better than that! We are Pirate Girls! Pirate Girls exist to see the smile on a child's face to see the twinkle in a gentleman's eye. We are a group that women long to be a part of because of the way we carry our selves, because of the fun we have, and because of the good we do! Not, because of the size of our float, or the style of our beads. We have lost focus!

I have only one choice. I must stand and fight for what I believe in. As any good pirate would do, I will wage a war against bureaucracy! I will slice through the red tape with the tip of my sabre', because it is the right thing to do!

As with any war for change, people will be hurt, friendships will be wounded, and failure is a big possibility. And, in the end, I could still walk away, but at least I won't have to walk away wondering "what if?"

You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything (Aaron Tippen)

Monday Minute: Peeing on Roller Coasters, Dreaming With the Blind

1) Would you rather be stuck on a bumpy roller coaster while having to pee extremely bad OR be stuck on a crowded elevator with really bad gas with co-workers? Definitely the roller coaster. I don't do well with people in small spaces. I'm not that "no way am I taking an elevator person," but, if I was stuck in there...and there was bad gas, yeah, I'd panic!

2) What is the one thing you miss most from your childhood? Summer vacations in New Hampshire with my Grandparents, and well, my grandparents. I spent my Summertime just enjoying the simple days, walking the neighborhood, going to the lake, playing Triominos, Uno, and Scrabble, and singing old songs. I've been missing your kissing just because I wasn't wise (Eddy Howard)

3) If aliens exist, what do you think they look like? Of course they exist! How selfish would it be for us to think that we are the only ones here. Oh, they exist alright! And when they come I'm not sticking around to see what the hell they look like! Are you crazy?! They'll burst my heart with just one thought from their brain! Heck, if I spend too much time thinking about what they might look like, they might just hear my brain waves, and come for a visit to see why I'm thinking about them. They'll be all bully like "I heard you were thinking about me. Hello, McFly!" No thanks! next question! I always feel like somebody's watching me (Rockwell)

4) Would you rather discuss your body weight or your salary with people that you know? I would much rather talk about my weight. At least then I can feel proud of having lost 18 pounds with my breast reduction and another 20 after that, but my salary?! I've got nothing to be proud of there, my progress stopped years ago.  cause I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me♪ (Beck)

5) If you were stuck in a predicament like in the movie Alive, could you revert to cannibalism? If so, how would you feel about eating your deceased friends and family?  Um, yes. Heck, come anywhere near me after my workout at the gym, and I might just gnaw your arm off! When I'm hungry, watch out! I'm hungry like the wolf (Duran Duran)

6) People that are born blind, what do they dream about? Sounds? I like to think that they dream in a technicolor world all their own, but I don't know. Let's ask Stevie Wonder!
"Stevie, what do you see when you dream?" Very superstitious, writing's on the wall
"So, Stevie, do you find inspiration from your dreams?" Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin strong
"Do you think what you see in your dreams is how things are?"  When you believe in things you don't understand, then you suffer
Ok, well, there you have it! :)

Woohoo! It's Friday! Let's get this party started! ♪ Let's get it started in here♪  (Black Eyed Peas)

On this day, 29 years ago, (OMG! 29?!) my mother ate some cotton candy at a carnival, went in to labor, and instead of having a little brother, out came my little sister. For 3 days she didn't have a name because everything had been planned around a boy. So, take this as a warning: Only eat cotton candy when you're pregnant, if you want to have a sweet little girl! Happy Birthday to my little sister, Monkey! (my name for her, not the one they decided on after the 3 days.)

In my neighborhood, we have security patrol, and apparently this one security guard has made it her personal duty to clear the world of criminals. Yes, that's right, she is taking things into her own hands. You may not know about a county ordinance that prohibits a vehicle blocking any part of the sidewalk, but she does, and she's not going to put up with it! On more than 1 occasion, we have had her stop out front to tell us to move our car because it is sticking out over the sidewalk. Seriously, she's obsessed! One time we were unloading a friends car with it still running, clearly, they were leaving, but she still had to stop!

Nobody is telling the people to stay off the street! Seriously! There are sidewalks, WALK ON THEM!

And what genius thought up this rule?! now there are cars parked all over the street making it a damn gauntlet to drive to my house. I'm waiting for some non-sidewalk using person to come jumping out from between the cars at any minute!

Apparently the local Sheriffs aren't aware of this ordinance either, because, there was most certainly a motorcycle cop hiding in the bushes with his radar gun yesterday in front of Starbucks! Nobody gave him a ticket for being parked on the sidewalk!

My First Confession

Mama Kat wants to know our confessions at Writer's Workshop.

These are my confessions♪  (Usher)

It was the day of my first confession, a ritual of passing in the Catholic religion where you learn at an early age that you can sin, as long as you're prepared to tell the old guy in the white collar what you did. I was 7 and scared to death. There were hundreds of us kids in a giant room waiting for our turn to confess our big sins to the priest of our choice. I chose Father Mike, he was the younger of the priests, and, always seemed to be happy, and well, he was really the lesser of the evils.

My mother has never liked crowds. Whether it's shopping or theme parks, if it means waiting around in a crowd of people, she wants nothing to do with it. Waiting to confess was like waiting to get into a haunted house at Halloween. You knew you had to stand in line, and wait your turn only so you could get into this scary place that you couldn't wait to get out of.

I was content to wait. I stood there formulating my list in my mind. I would tell him of the lies I told, the bad words I said. I would spill my guts about putting glue in the cootie girl's hair, and about stealing that quarter from my Mom's room to buy candy. I was ready. I would tell father Mike everything.

My mother, had a different idea. She quickly grew tired of waiting, and seeing the much shorter line at the Pastor she insisted that I go see him. I stood firmly in place. No way was I going to see that guy! He was old and mean, and he smelled funny! No way, un-huh! I'm staying right here!

With a strong hand on the back of my little 7 year old neck, I found myself getting closer and closer to the Pastor. I could just sit down and refuse to move, but with all these kids in here, someone would see and, and next thing I knew, "Father, this is my first confession, I um, didn't always listen to my mother."

That was it. If she wanted me to confess to him, I would just not tell him everything! Nothing about the cootie girl, or stealing, or saying bad words, or lying, nope, none of that, just a disobeyed my mother.

So, here's my confessions:
At my first confession, I didn't really confess, I thought bad thoughts of the priest smelling bad, I lied, and I plotted against my mother with my scheme to not confess all...

But, it's her fault, I'm not sorry! I was seven and she made me go to the scary guy! Maybe she needs to confess her sins! She can start with, "Father, I confess, I made my daughter go to the scary priest because I'm selfish and couldn't just be patient and wait in line!"

Pour Your Heart Out: Trying Not to Judge

I'm joining in on Pour Your Heart Out at my friend Shell's place. Head over and check out some of the other posts, and if you have something you need to get off your chest, join in!

I've always thought of myself as "open-minded." I believe that there are at least 2 sides to every story, and there are exceptions to every rule. I think everyone has a story, and it's not our place to be their judge.

I'm Pro-choice. I believe women have the right to choose what happens to their own body, but abortion should not be a means of birth control. I have a hard time not being judgemental of a woman that can tell you prior to getting pregnant that if it ever happened she would get an abortion. Really?! that's your plan?! How about using any of the number of preconception birth control methods?! Hell, use them all!

Abortion should not be an easy decision. It should not be your "plan." Even as someone that is firmly pro-choice, I also firmly believe that abortion is ending a life, but, sometimes it is the right choice to make. Just as  euthanizing a sick pet is clearly taking a life, it is, sometimes,  the right choice. It should however, be the last choice, not the first!

Now, I know that this goes completely against being an "open-minded" person. In fact, it makes me a more judgemental person than I would have ever have wanted to admit. But, I'm admitting it: I'm judgemental! I have an opinion, and as hard as I try, I can't help but look at someone differently when they made such a decision so easily. When they knew in advance that it was the decision they would make, and yet, they did nothing to prevent having to make that decision.

It's her body, her choice, but, it's not a choice I would have made. But, then, I'm not that person. In my life, that choice was never even a consideration and thankfully so.

I'm pro-choice, I just wish more people would choose life.

5 Things to Know Before You Vote

In the age of early voting, most people have probably already locked in their vote for the year, but, it's Election day, and if you haven't voted yet, here's 5 things you should know before you vote.

1. Voting is FREE- Looking for something to do today? Try voting. In an unsteady economy, it is a life experience that remains absolutely FREE!

2. There are more than 2 parties- Really! It's true. We are not just a 2 party system. Our media may be flooded with talks of "Democrats want this" and "Republicans are doing that" but there are indeed, other parties. And, they're not all out to destroy our way of life as you may have been led to believe.

3. You don't have to vote for your own party-  It's okay to vote outside your party. I swear there won't be a lightning bolt to strike you down for going against your party in an election. In fact, no one has to even know. You have a brain use it! Vote for who/what you believe in, not just what your party says you should.

4. Blind Justice isn't blind voting- Candidates for judge may be expected to be impartial once they take office, but they still have their own beliefs and agendas. Blind justice doesn't mean you should vote blind, do your research.

5. Vote on the person not the suit- So, you really like the suit that candidate was wearing, or maybe they have a nice smile? Well, style and good looks don't equal hard work and strong ethics. Lipstick on a pig is still a pig! Don't vote for a candidate because you like the way they look, vote for them because you think they'll make a difference.

Voting is a big decision, don't go about it lightly.

Monday Minute The Ghost of Halloween Past

What did you dress up as your first Halloween? I have absolutely no idea, I vaguely remember wearing a hula skirt when I was 8, but prior to that...no idea! I'm sure it was something totally awesome, though, because that's how I roll. :)

What has been your favorite Halloween costume of all time? When I was 9, my mother made me into a baby in a baby carriage using boxes and baby blankets. I had to walk leaning backwards so I would look like I was laying down. It was uncomfortable, and awkward! But, I won $50 in the school costume contest, so I loved it! ♪she told me to walk this way♪ (Aerosmith/Run DMC)

Do you believe in ghosts? Yes, I believe they can do whatever they set their minds to! ♪the freaks come out, the freaks come out, the freaks come out at night♪ (Whodini)

What's your favorite holiday of the year? Halloween for sure! I love getting dressed up, and seeing all the kids in their little costumes. On this day, with a little imagination, you can truly be anything you want. ♪This is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween♪ (Jack Skellington)

What's your favorite fall dessert? I love pumpkin chocolate chip cookies! Okay, so I always love cookies, but adding pumpkin is like kicking it up a notch. Bam! You just take your basic chocolate chip recipe, add some canned pumpkin and a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg, and...you've got amazingly soft and delicious cookies. So simple but so yummy!!  ♪so delicious its hot hot♪ (Fergie)
