Go Green and Win Some Green

If you're looking to be a little greener, or you're just looking for a little bit of the green, you'll want to check out this site!

Zumbox is a site that offers a digital mailbox for your postal address. In other words major companies that would have sent you snail mail can now send mail to your personal digital mailbox. This could be great for when you're traveling because you can access it anywhere, and of course it would also help save some of our precious trees, and put less waste into our landfills.

On it's own Zumbox is a great service, but then throw in the $1,000,000 giveaway that they're doing, and it becomes a must do! There are so many prizes to be won including cash, giftcards, and Ipads! I personally won a $10 Starbucks card, and so did my husband. Even if you have no interest in the service, why not register to see if you're already a winner.

Check it out here. And, if you win, let me know!

Music Monday, One Name Artists

It's Monday, and that means Music! Today's Music Monday theme is bands or singers with one name.

My first choice is Metallica. The song is For Whom the Bell Tolls from the Metallica S&M album. The album was recorded with the San Francisco Orchestra. I love the extra layer that the symphony brings to this hard rock song.

The next is by Dido; White Flag. I just really like this song.

I couldn't have a post about one name singers without Adele. I just adore her voice and passion and I especially like the emotion of this song, "Make you Feel My Love"

Have a Musical Monday!

Aloha Friday, Summer Savings Tips

It's Friday, and while that's supposed to mean relaxing and getting ready for the weekend, my day off yesterday, has left me extremely busy at work, today, so not to much taking it easy for me, but I hope the rest of you are winding down for the week!

I have an Aloha Friday question for you, but before I get to that, I really need a favor! I entered a contest to try to win a trip to San Diego for Blogher. I don't usually enter popularity contests, but since this one involved sharing a tip for Summer Savings, I went ahead and joined in. I'm up against some really big bloggers, and I have no idea where I stand in the ranks, but if you could give me your vote, I'd be forever grateful!

Just click on the vote button to the left or click HERE and use Ctrl+F to search for Amethyst, vote for me, and you're done!

Here's the tip I submitted:
"Suspend your gym membership and get outdoors! The weather is perfect for outdoor activities. You can save on the cost of your gym, by playing a game of catch, swimming, or taking a nightly walk."

Today's question:

What's your tip for saving in the Summer?

Answer in a comment, and go visit Kailani for more Aloha Friday Fun

I Don't Have Time to Learn

My husband is great at taking care of the house, and getting things done that I've put off, but his beliefs are a little different than mine. for Example:

He believes you get your chores done first and then you've got all day to go online or play Xbox, watch movies, etc... I think going online is Waaaay more important than putting clothes away! Those clothes will still be there tomorrow, but if I miss a tweet today, it could be gone for good!

He also thinks cleaning should be done everyday! What?! Why the heck would anyone want to clean everyday?! Are we on some HGTV reality show where you win a prize for keeping the cleanest house?! No?! Well then, straighten up a little and sit down and enjoy yourself. I promise the cleaning police won't stop by today.

I'm sure there's something I can learn from him in his methods, but really I've got giveaways to enter, twitter parties to attend, and music to listen to, I just don't have time. I'll learn later.

I know it's up for me if you steal my sunshine (Len)

Music Monday, Gentleman's Choice

Happy Music Monday! In honor of Father's Day, today's songs were chosen by my husband. Thanks Bear, for the great selections!

This first one is by a Texas band that we first saw at a horror movie convention. Ghoultown's "Elvira."

The Black Crowes' "Hard To Handle" I asked "Why?" He said "Because I like it!" And, so do I.

Bear's a big GNR fan, so had to have at least one. Guns N' Roses' "November Rain"

Hope everyone has a fabulous week full of harmony.

Aloha Friday, Brand Loyalty

Happy Friday! This morning, I'm drinking a Vanilla Iced Coffee from Seattles Best in my Starbucks cup. Terrible, I know...I'm such a coffee slut! I love my Starbucks, but I had both a manufacturer's coupon and a store coupon for the Seattle's Best 4 pack of cans at Publix, so I couldn't pass up the deal. I'm willing to pay more for brands I love, but if there's a deal...I'm there!

Here's my question to you:

Are you loyal to a brand, or do you get around?

Music Monday, Trouble Is a Friend

I love watching a good movie, and I especially like when I find new music artists from movies. Today's Music Monday choice is featured in the movie Easy A, (a well written movie, if you haven't seen it, you really should!) Trouble is a Friend by Lenka is the music that moves me on this fine Monday, (that's optimistic, because I'm writing this on Sunday, but I just know it's gonna be a great week.) I dare you to listen to this song and not hum along, it's so catchy. I love the visuals on the video; very well done. Hope you enjoy it.

Have a harmonious Music Monday!

Remember what happened Last Year?! Ugh!

This is a repost, because today is my 19th anniversary, and I'm hoping it goes better than last year:

I Can't Get No satisfaction, but... There's Triscuits.
Even though we've been together for more than half my life, I still worry about how I look to him. So, on the night of our 18th Anniversary, I make sure to spend a little extra time in front of the mirror doing my make-up, and trying to get my curl crazed hair to just control itself! With hair and makeup done, I now turn to the suitcase to decide which of the 10 outfits I've packed is going to fit like it did before I packed it. This shirt with this skirt, or these capris with this top, or, or, or... Finally, an hour after we decided it was time to go get dinner, with hubby patiently waiting, ♪waiting on a woman♪ (Brad Paisley) (at least he looks patient, I mean he's watching ESPN, so he must be ok, right?) finally, I'm ready to go.

I turn to him and say "Do I look ok?" and you know what he says?! He says "yes, you looked good an hour ago." I know that's a compliment, and I know he just means that I always look good to him, but where's the appreciation for my hardwork?! Doesn't he know what a sacrifice I just made?! I stood in front of a mirror for an hour! An hour! I plucked hairs, lathered myself in moisturizer, stuffed and cinched and sucked in my fat rolls, and inhaled poisonous hairspray fumes, all... for... him! All, so he wouldn't look across the dinner table and think "what the hell happened to her?!"  ♪She let herself go♪ (George Strait)

Anyway, so, I'm looking good, he's looking good, and we're hand in hand off to dinner at Raintree in St. Augustine. We know right away that this is not our kind of place, but decide to stick it out, because of the special occasion. I had the $28 Ribeye, (do you know how many ribeyes I could cook for $28?!) and he had the Chicken a la Zingara (that's fancy talk for tiny chicken breast with cheese.) The food was good, there just wasn't enough of it! And, it wasn't like we were paying extra for great service, because there wasn't enough of that, either! With the bill paid, we leave, agreeing to get something more to eat later, after a little anniversary ♪bonchickawawa♪  in the hotel room.

I'm swooning as he opens the hotel room door, and with sultry sexiness, I...run past him, straight to...the bathroom, where I stay long enough to dispel this alien life form thats suddenly waging war on my intestines, take a shower to wash off all that damn makeup that I had to put on for my special night, and then drag myself into bed...to sleep, leaving Bear to spend the rest of our romantic evening with the TV and a box of Triscuits.  ♪Did I shave my legs for this?♪  (Deana Carter)

Chili's Review and $20 Giveaway

If I could have any 3 things on a plate, it would probably be cookies, corned beef hash, and pot roast. There's just something very comforting about these 3 foods, so seeing them all on one plate would just make me uber happy!
Chili's doesn't have those 3 items, but they do have The Triple Dipper on their appetizer menu. The Triple Dipper is like a sampler platter, only you're in control of what's on it, and it comes with 3 great dipping sauces. With 9 items to choose from, you're sure to find 3 that will make the perfect combination to make you smile. We went to Chili's after my daughter's graduation to celebrate. We ordered 2 Triple Dippers so we could try most everything. My favorite items were the Chicken Crispers and the Spinach dip. Hubby loves the Southwest Egg Rolls and Big Mouth Bites, and my vegetarian daughter was delighted to have Cheese Sticks!

Music Monday, Rihanna's Man Down Kills

My Music Monday choice this week is a controversial song from Rihanna. Rihanna seems to be surrounded by controversy lately after her music video with Eminem for "Love the Way you Lie" that seemingly glorified domestic abuse. The controversy continues with Rihanna's latest song about a woman that has killed a man.

The video portrays a man getting shot, and the lyrics are specifically about shooting a man down. This portrayed violence has made some demand it not be played on the radio or shown on television.

While the song does speak of the violence of killing, it also comes across as remorseful. In my opinion, it is no more inappropriate than Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" or Bob Marley's "I shot the Sheriff," both of which talk of killing a man. Music is art, it is designed to make you think and feel. Rihanna has accomplished this with "Man Down."

Have a great Music Monday, and let me know what you think. Has Rihanna gone too far?

Aloha Friday, Graduation Day

Happy Aloha Friday, the day to kick back and relax... Well, unless you're like me and you have a graduation to get ready for, then there's not a whole lot of relaxing going on! #1, The Princess is graduating today, and if it weren't for all the things I need to get done, I'd probably be crying already!

I was thinking about my own graduation and our class song, which was "The End of the Road" by Boyz II Men

Although we've come to the end of the road, Still, I can't let you go

My question for you:

What was your class song?, or What song makes you think of High School?
