Prince and Dancing With Girl Scouts

Like many people, I was shocked and saddened to hear of the the death of Prince. I wouldn't call myself a fangirl, but I do have a great appreciation for his artistry and his contributions to music. As an 80's girl, I think Prince's music has been a huge part of my life's soundtrack. There was, "Little Red Corvette" and "Kiss" and I still break into a chorus of "Raspberry Beret" when I think of shopping at the Five and Dime; yeah my small town still had one of those when I was little.

Oh, and Remember when we actually thought 1999 might be the end of the world? So, naturally, we were going to have the most epic party to compare all other parties to and the Purple one realized the need for a theme song for those awesome parties. ♪Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999

Friends, Labels, and Drugs

Friends are a lot like drugs, they can solve many problems, make you feel great, sometimes even a little loopy, but sometimes even a good thing can have bad side effects. So, wouldn't it be easier if they each came with their own "friendship warning label" so you know what to expect. Because all friends are great, but some you can only handle in small doses.

For example, I have a friend who has a "never been a mother complex" you know the one that doesn't have kids, never wants kids, but wants to not only tell you how to raise yours, but also wants to mother you! I still love her, but sometimes I just need a break from her. So, because I know this, I know not to schedule a long day alone on an island with her because she would surely become shark food by the end of the day.

Another friend is the "lack of movement may cause drowsiness" she is a ton of fun, but if she's not doing something to keep her entertained, she quickly gets sleepy eyes, and the night will soon be over. So simple solution for this label, when we go out it's never just a bar to sit and chill, we have to go somewhere to dance and mingle.

Then, there's the 2 friends that are like drugs and alcohol, they just don't mix! After one night of drama with them together, I now make sure to give them there own time on separate nights!

So what should you know to be my friend? What's on my warning label? Well, I'm the friend that will never call, but I'll be there when you need to talk. I'll buy your birthday gift months in advance but forget to give it to you. I don't respond well to being told what to do, but I'm always open to new things. I will be the first to jump on stage to dance, and will try to drag you with me. I love music of all kinds, and I sometimes break out into song in the middle of our conversation. I'm a bit of a nerd with a love of books, unicorns, and exploring new places. I love hanging out with friends, but sometimes I just want to be alone, and if we're on vacation it will most certainly involve good food.

We have our strengths that make us great and our opportunity areas that make us unique. We should all own our little quirks because they make us who we are. It's our diversity that makes us interesting, and keeps our friendships strong. In friendship, be willing to compromise, but don't compromise who you are. Be yourself and wear your "warning label" with pride.

What would your friendship warning label say?

5 Songs For Tax Day

It's Monday and it's Tax Day, not a great combination, but hopefully not as bad as it sounds. Hopefully, like me, you took advantage of the weekend and got those taxes done and done! Each year as my kids ages got higher, the tax refund gets lower. I'm happy that I'm still getting a refund, but I think it's time to face reality that with both my daughters out of college, it may be the last year for that. So, unlike that year the oldest turned 16 and I was surprised by the loss of the child tax credit, I'm gonna try to get in front of this change and make some adjustments because the only thing worse than paying the taxman is being surprised about paying the tax man. Ugh! Now, enough talk about taxes, let's let the music speak.

It's Music Monday, and this week is all about the hard work we do for the money we need. Here's 5 songs for Tax Day.

Celebrate National Pecan Day With Nonni's Biscotti and Enter To Win- EXPIRED

April 14th is National Pecan Day, and I'm happy to celebrate what is probably my favorite nut. Pecans are heart healthy and full of antioxidants, but most importantly, they are delicious! I like them raw, roasted, salted, in my oatmeal, toasted, and in desserts. I certainly don't need any excuse to eat desserts, especially one with pecans, but it sure feels nice to know that there is a delicious options with lower calories out there. I'm talking about Nonni's Turtle Pecan Biscotti!

Netflix Original "The Ranch" Delivers Comedy With Heart and Music

I didn't have much adventure this weekend, unless climbing my way out from under a pile of homework counts...no...yeah probably not. I did, however, find some time to binge watch a new Netflix show, "The Ranch". It's a good comedy series that is a little heavier on the drama side, but still with plenty of laughs. It's set on a cattle ranch in Colorado and has a real family feel to it, but heads up this series is not one for the little ones in your family. It's worth the watch and it has a great Country soundtrack' starting with the opening theme song sung by Shooter Jennings and Lukas Nelson.

"The Ranch" really highlighted the music as if the songs were characters themselves. I love when a director is able to do that and not lose the heart of the show. Here's just a few of my favorites from "The Ranch" Season 1.
