Aloha Friday, What's your College Advice?

Happy Aloha Friday! I can't believe it, but tomorrow is the day my daughter moves into her dorm for her first time in college. I'm full of mixed emotions. I'm so excited for the experience she'll have and the memories she'll make, but I'm also nervous for her on her own, and a little melancholy to see her go.

So, with #1 going off to college, my Aloha Friday question for you:

What's your best piece of advice for a first time college student?

My advise to her courtesy of Eminem:
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go

  1. The first thing that popped into my head is: "Phone home...often!" ;)

I know I'll be a blubbering idiot when Princess Nagger eventually goes off to college... :)

Boys are Different - Bedtime Routines

  2. Don't be scared to put yourself out there and make friends and contacts. Don't be too shy like I was.

Also, put the effort into it! College costs way too much to repeat courses just because you didn't try hard enough - I also know this one from experience.

  3. Study first, phone home, party little.

  4. My advice, as someone who went into college too young and dropped out because of it, is don't get caught up with parties and go to class!! I was 16 when I started my freshman year and I was too immature to live in a dorm... oh well.. thats life!

  5. My best advice is to buy used books online! The books in the bookstore are super expensive, even the used ones. and are great resources! Some campuses even offer rental programs for books...this is a huge cost saver!

  6. Make studying a priority and don't party till you drop. Also, CALL YOUR MOM OFTEN.

  7. Don't get too caught up in the party scene.

Have a great rest of your Friday!

  8. I've got to agree with the advice above to study hard because it is too important and too expensive not to and to watch it on the partying. Too many kids go off to college, get their first taste of real freedom, and go overboard.
Reach out and make friends with dorm-mates and classmates. Join a club or organization that you're interested in or a sorority if interested.
It helps to have friends at college that you can turn to when you get stressed, need to vent, need to unwind, or need some help studying, and of course, to have fun with!
    Best wishes!!!

  9. Everything in moderation. College is a great time to have fun, but it is also important to do well and make good grades. I definitely had too much fun and paid for it!

  10. Jobs dropped out of college and made a fortune.
So... party til you drop and then get into Internet Marketing.

  11. Enjoy your college years and have fun . . . but in moderation.

  12. Ooooh. Four more years and I'll be in the same boat.I agree with Kailani. Go to college with the goal to do your best in studying, but don't forget to have fun. I was a nerd and regret not doing more fun things.
