Aloha Friday! I'm on my way to North Carolina for my cousin's wedding. I'm looking forward to a nice weekend with hubby and family. The drive will take us about 11 hours from Tampa to Raleigh, but we've packed a cooler, and we'll have plenty of music to make the trip go by quick.

What are your favorite road trip tunes and/or snacks?

My First Love With Food Box has Arrived!

My first Love With Food box arrived today! I couldn't wait to open it and see what gourmet surprises awaited me. I've been reading about all the beauty subscription boxes, and while it sounded cool to get beauty samples in the mail. I just wasn't completely certain.

But, Gourmet Food samples?! That I knew I couldn't pass up!

I signed up immediately.

Each month Love With Food sends gourmet samples. It's only $10 a month, and each month is something different. You can treat yourself, or buy a gift subscription for someone else.

And for every box ordered, Love With Food will donate a meal.

This is August's box. The theme is Travelin' Treats.

I've just started digging in, but, already I can tell you.... The COCONUT TOFFEE PEANUTS ARE SOOOOO GOOD! Next, I'm trying the vegan cookies,, ooh, or maybe the key lime mustard with pretzels....ooh how will I decide...

Disclosure: I received August's box for free for this review, but all words expressed are my own.  I had already subscribed for September prior to the offer for review because I really love this program!

Music Monday, Spice Girls Reunion

Happy Music Monday! Today, my youngest daughter starts her first day of college, and.....so do I! We're up early to get her to class, and to get me to the college bookstore for all the supplies I need. I definitely need some music to get my butt moving!!

Let's start with the Spice Girls! I was so excited to see them reunited at the Olympics. I hope this means a reunion tour in the future.

Mom Made Enchiladas

Until now, I had never had an enchilada. I didn't really even know what an enchilada was. When we eat Mexican, I tend to stick to tacos or fajitas, because it's what I know, and I can be comfortable with what's in it. Glad sent me the ingredients and recipe for Mom Made Chicken Enchiladas. It looked interesting, so I figured I'd give it a try.

With Glad FreezerWare containers, you can cook meals in advance, then freeze, and pull it right from the freezer to the microwave. So I figured if I didn't like it, I'd freeze it and hubby could eat it later.

But, I liked it!

Back to School TI-Nspire Giveaway

When I was in High School, I hated math! Now, 20 years later, I'm finally going to college, and the first class I have to take is Algebra! This time, though, I'm going to have a TI Nspire CX to help make it a lot more fun, and so will one of my readers! Read on to find out how to enter to win.

When I went to BlogHer and saw that Texas Instruments was going to be hosting a breakfast to learn about the TI Nspire CX Graphing Calculator, I knew that I needed to go. With 2 kids in College this year, along with myself, a good calculator could be so helpful.

I expected to learn about their calculator, but I didn't expect for it to be so fun! Texas Instruments served us a nice breakfast, before showing us how classrooms are putting their products to use. It was so nice to have actual math and science teachers show us what they're doing in their classrooms. The Nspire CX is so much more than a calculator. It has a back lit, full color screen that is easy to use, and within the classroom it can be used with additional technology to share answers with the teacher via Wi-Fi, and it can be hooked to a thermometer for science projects.

Aloha Friday, Borrowing from Children

Happy Aloha Friday! I hope it's been a great week for you and I hope you will have an even better weekend!

I was having a conversation with a group of ladies this week about raising children on a budget, and trying to make ends meet. One of the topics of discussion was how there were times when we had to borrow from our children, but we used it to teach about interest, and always paid back more than we borrowed. Personally, I think I always paid back more, not to teach about interest, but to try to ease my own guilt about having to borrow from my child in the first place.

So the question of the week:

Have you ever borrowed from a child's piggy bank?

Answer in a comment, and then head to An Island Life for more Aloha Friday fun. Then, kick back, relax, and enjoy your weekend!

Delicious Chocolate Babka

We had a food day at work today. Normally, I would use Pinterest to find an awesome recipe to make, but I wasn't feeling so great, yesterday, soooo...

...Chocolate Babka to the rescue, courtesy of a local bakery!

It was so good, with that delicious chocolate and cinnamon, and the crumb topping. Yum!

The only bad part...I had to share!

Aloha Friday, Imaginary Friends

It's Aloha Friday, the day to take it easy, and prepare for the weekend ahead of you. It's also the day that I ask you a question. This week's question:

Have you, or your child, ever had an imaginary friend?

I love to read your answers! Answer below, and then head to An Island Life for more Aloha Friday fun.

Battle of Shepherd's Pie Hill

I come from the generation of kids that were sent to bed without dinner as a punishment for acting out. But, if I didn’t like my dinner, I couldn’t leave the table until I finished it. That’s some great parental logic, right there…

I’ve always been a picky eater, but thinking back, I would’ve ate more if Mom just knew how to cook. She didn’t cook very often, but when she did…you better have plenty of napkins available for stashing mouthfuls.

She was notorious for placing balls of black, leather like meat in front of us that were meant to be hamburgers. I have a vague late 1970’s memory involving a stuffed pepper stand-off. The tops of the peppers were all bubbly black and overflowing with a charred mixture of hamburger and rice. I don’t know any 4 year old that would have eaten a stuffed pepper to begin with, but certainly not one looking like this! Thankfully, she must not have liked them either because I never saw another one. I may have won this battle, but the war would wage on.

Now That's a Cool Knife Set!

I love to have fun in the kitchen. It's just food so why should it be so serious?! Talk about a fun addition to the kitchen! I totally want this!! Today only, it's available for 45% off at Sneakpeeq. And, it comes in different colors!! I better hurry if I want this voodoo knife set in my kitchen!

What do you think? Do you like it?

Wordless Wednesday, Little Girl in the City

I just got back from a great trip to New York with my youngest daughter. We didn't get to do everything we wanted to, but we still had a great time. It meant so much to me to spend time with her. She kept reminding me, that she'll be 18 soon, (in less than a week,) but, you know, she'll always be my little girl.

I'm too tired to write, let's just link up an old post.

Welcome to Life Music Laughter, home of Tuesdays Gone with Amethyst Moon (that's me!)

Wow! What a whirlwind BlogHer was! I think I had somewhat of a BlogHer hangover, and it resulted in me getting absolutely nothing done on Monday. Not even my usual Monday music post. Yikes! I will soon be sharing pictures of New York and some thoughts on BlogHer, but right now, I'm exhausted! So, let's just all take a break and link up some great old posts.
