Aloha Friday, Pour Me a Cold One

Happy Friday! In Hawaii Friday is a day to kick back and relax, (as it should be everywhere!) I like to relax with a pint of Guinness, or whip cream flavoered Vodka and coke, (think Cream Soda.) My Aloha Friday question for you:

What is your beverage of choice?

The Feathered Visitors

I got a call from my daughter after school last week. "Mom, there's a bird on our patio and it's smashing its head in. We can't get it out and the dogs are going crazy trying to get to it."

I told them to leave it alone, and it might fly out on its own. Unfortunately, they left it alone, but it continued to fly into the screen. When I got home the little brown bird had hit it's head so many times that you could see its little skull, and there were feathers everywhere. Every time I went near it, it flapped it's wings and flew into the screen. I felt so bad for it, and so helpless for being unable to help it. I thought for sure this bird was going to die on our porch.

But, hubby saved it! He used an empty planter and a piece of cardboard to trap it and take it outside. At first it was stunned and just sat there, but after a few minutes, it flew up over the rooftops!  take these broken wings and learn to fly, all your life (Beatles)

The next morning I let the dogs out, who let the dogs out? (Baha Men)
I went back into the house for 5 minutes, and when I came back, this was on the porch.

Oh no! Not again!   Oh no not again it hurts so good I don't understand. (Rod Stewart)

I ran inside and told Bear "I know you're a Cubs fan, but will you please come save this little Cardinal?!"

He got up, did his man business, and...

it was gone!  No skull bashing, no wing flapping craziness, just a stop to rest on my porch and it was on it's way.

We'll be keeping the screen door closed from now on!

I wish that I could fly into the sky so very high (Lenny Kravitz)

Help Japan and Get Freebies

I think everyone knows that I love Swagbucks because of all the great freebies I get, just for using their search engine. I use their search engine a couple times a day just to get my swagbucks. There are so many ways to earn swagbucks including polls, surveys and shopping.  They're always posting new swagcodes for bonus swagbucks. I save up my swagbucks to buy giftcards, but there's lots of ways to spend them including sweepstakes, and prizes.

Tip for Bloggers: If you want to host an easy giveaway, trade in your swagbucks for an Amazon gift card. It's free to you, and a great way to reward your readers!

Besides the freebies, Swagbucks also cares about the world, and that's very important to me in a company. We're all aware of the recent tragedy in Japan, and if you're like me you want to help, but don't have any extra to give. This is where Swagbucks comes in. Until May 5th at Noon PST, you can donate Swagbucks to Help Japan. The Swagbucks will be turned into dollars to help with the relief efforts. So far, they've donated $20,000 and that number is rising. You can donate as little as 5 swagbucks because every little bit helps.

If you're not a member of Swagbucks, yet, join now and use the special code HelpJapan and you'll get an instant 50 Swagbucks.

The 50 swagbucks are yours to do what you want with, but, I hope you'll consider donating some to Help Japan.

Music Monday Country Song

I'm dragging butt this morning! After a long weekend, all I want to do is sleep some more, but the bills must be paid, so I must go to work. What I need is a song to get me going! This is just the right song for that. Country Song by Seether makes me stomp my feet and slap the steering wheel.

The video brings a child's imagination to life, with so much fun. I just love when the Teddy Bear Sheriff shows up. And, of course, there's a unicorn, so what's not to love?!

Enjoy and let's hope Monday gets a move on!

Aloha Friday, Beach Day

It's Friday, and I have the day off! I'll be kicking back with some magazines and sunblock, at Coquina Beach. Coquina Beach is located on the Gulf, South of Tampa near Bradenton.  It's not my favorite beach in the area, but it is nice. And since we will be spending the day with friends with small children, the playground location is perfect. There are plenty of picnic tables and grills, so we'll have a nice lunch. There is also quite a bit of shaded area, so if it gets a little too hot in the Florida sun, I have a place to retreat to.

How will you be spending the day?

SkinCareRX $25 Giveaway

As a mom, I don't always have time for me. Between, picking kids up from late night events, getting up at 5:30 for work, running to the store for last minute project stuff, and taking my dogs out at all hours of the night, because they haven't figured out that night time is for sleeping, I'm often going through the day like a zombie! But, I don't want to look like one of the living dead, so I always make time for my skin care.

SkinCareRX has a great selection of products that will help keep your skin looking clean, clear and youthful including Kinerase. Kinerase has a great product for women on the go. The Kinerase Hydrating Antioxidant Mist is great for refreshing your skin during the day. Instead of reapplying makeup you just spray it on for rehydration. It can also be used in the morning for toner, and it's great for oily skin in place of a moisturizer because it is so light weight. And, in this Florida Heat, it just feels refreshing!

As a sponsor of my blog, SkinCareRX has offered to give one reader a $25 Gift Certificate so you may try Kinerase or any of their other fabulous products. But, if you can't wait to see if you win, go ahead and buy it, you can always use your winnings towards a second bottle.

Music Monday, Friends Make You Laugh

Photobucket

The theme at Monday's Music Moves Me today is "friends." The best thing about friends is sharing a good laugh. So in honor of the laughter and silliness of a good friend, I'm providing you with a stupid silly goofy video. The latest single from Right Said Fred, those fabulously buff brothers that brought us I'm too sexy for my shirt, so sexy it hurts.

Because the world did not have enough songs about butts, booties, and rumps, here's right Said Fred's ode to derrières everywhere: Hope you laugh your bums off ! Because life's too short to take it too seriously!

Aloha Friday and Fragments of Winning

Happy Friday! It seems so long since the last one. I'm so happy it's back! It's Aloha Friday, but first a few fragments of my mind.

Mommy's Idea

After my day at the doctor, she suggested I wear support hose which makes me just cringe at the thought. I've seen support hose and they're not pretty! Seriously, can't they at least make them in some cool colors, or with some rockin' skulls or unicorns on them?! The nude color thing they've got going on is not fooling anyone...they're beige, and who wants to wear beige?!  I'm looking for something in red (Laurie Morgan)

Tomorrow is our Yard sale, the one we were supposed to do a couple weeks ago, but I put it off, because...well, ... I HATE YARD SALES! Especially in the Florida Heat, which is why I can't put it off any longer, because it's April and in Florida, that's practically Summer.

Because of my love of freebies, I also like to enter sweepstakes. I haven't got a "big win" yet, but I've won some nice prizes. The cool thing about sweeping is you never know when a prize will show up at your door. The other day the UPS truck stopped outside. I got so excited imagining what I might have won. He was taking a long time so it must be a pretty big box that he's trying to get off the truck. Then, he just got back in his truck and drove off! Dang him! Taunting me like that! Wait, he's back! Woohoo! I did win something! It was a super small package, so I guess he couldn't find it before. I opened it up hoping for a gift card, and inside was a note, "congratulations, you were randomly selected in our monthly giveaway. Enclosed is your prize."  My "prize" was a one time use sample packet of hair gel. A SAMPLE PACKET! As in grab one at the Salon anytime...that was not even worth the BBT (Big Brown Truck) excitement.  A win is a win, but this is just sad. They could've at least fancied it up a little and put it in a bottle. *sigh* oh well, maybe the next win will be a little bigger.

I want money lots and lots of money...I wanna be rich (Calloway)

What's the best thing you've ever won?

What does My Purse say about Me?

Women's magazine's seem to always have a "what's in her bag?" section, where some celebrity's very luxurious items are neatly laid out for us to ooh and aah over. I always think if they were to ask me "what's in your bag?" they'd be bored before I ever got it all out.

The photographer would say:

"No, that's okay mam, we don't need to see your month old receipts."
"Uh, mam half those coupons are expired."
"Thanks we've seen enough."
"no, really mam, it's okay we've seen all we need to. Thanks."

What do you think?

My fabulous zombie purse.

Most the crap in it.
Let's see we have:
My awesome Unicorn wallet by Parcel.
Hemp Hand lotion by Body Shop (this stuff is the best, non-greasy hand creme!)
Cinnamon Bun lipgloss by Philosophy
Vanilla SPF 30 lip balm by Blistex
Pens and hair things and of course some aspirin for those teenage headaches.
A stack of business cards for friends, mixed in with some random receipts
My uber stylish anchor pill case by Classic Hardware
My wicked cool Rolling Stones Zippo, (the fuel usually evaporates before I use it because I don't smoke.)
A Breast friends pin
Band-aids, put there this morning because the dog leash sliced my cuticle, (they're Scooby Doo.)
My inhaler in case some hot guy takes my breath away.

And, finally, a whole crap load of coupons, because you just never know when a great deal might come along!

Not shown: more coupons, loose change, my employee badge, and receipts that I keep for some unknown freakin' reason! Oh, and the $5 I found when emptying out my purse for this picture which I quickly spent on breakfast.

So,what does my purse say about me?  carefree? frugal?

It says I'm one hot mess and I need to clean out my purse, but I'll find ya a deal!

And, please just save me if you can from the blasphemy in my wasteland (Shinedown)

Mama’s Losin’ It

Changes in Attitude

I spent the day yesterday undergoing some medical tests. In between testing I sat in the waiting room with 2 older women that were having the same tests done. One of the women was very grumpy. She complained about absolutely everything, yelled at the nurses, and talked my ear off with her opinions on the world. She said to me "you know lesbians are all right people in general, they're just messed up in the head." She got to this topic because Katie Couric has short hair, but this woman thought that people would think she was a lesbian if she had short hair like that. I was so glad to be rescued by the nurse when it was my time for another test. The nurse told me the trick is to pretend you're sleeping, then the "old people" won't bother you. I will definitely have to remember that.

The other woman had to be the sweetest, happiest person I have ever met. This lovely lady could just light up a room. She told me how she's getting tested because she had a pacemaker a few years ago, and she has to have everything looked at to get surgery done tomorrow. She needs a hip replacement because of a car accident that killed her husband and left her in a wheelchair. She told me how she lives with 3 of her daughters, sharing time between all of them. This is because her home was wiped out in 2004 by a hurricane only 3 months after she bought it. She joked how the only thing she owns is a bedroom suit and she likes it that way.  Even though she can't walk she goes to the country bar to watch everyone line dance, and "dances in her chair." I can't tell you enough what a joy this woman was. With all that she has gone through she was so positive and optimistic. I commented on her great attitude and she said "Well, why not, I have a great life. With 4 daughters, 8 grandchildren, and soon to be 14 great grandchildren, what is there to be miserable about?!"

This woman has the right idea! Everything is better with the right attitude. I admit I've been feeling a little sorry for myself lately, but no more! I have a great life with an amazing man that loves me, 2 beautiful daughters, and great friends. What is there to be sorry for?! Absolutely nothing! It just took a day with 2 strangers to remind me.

It's those changes in latitude, changes in attitude nothing remains quite the same. With all of our running and all of our cunning, if we couldn't laugh we would all go insane (Jimmy Buffett)

The beach, just one more thing to be happy about!

Music Monday- Gimme Some Rope

Happy Music Monday! Did everyone have a great weekend? I did. I painted my heart out in Tampa with my oldest daughter and my Siren Krewe on Saturday morning. The house looked great and the homeowner was very pleased.

Saturday night, we did dinner with friends at Macaroni Grill followed by cheesecake to go from The Cheesecake Factory, and Scene It on the Xbox.

Yesterday, I finally got my closet organized, and I think we may finally be ready to have that yard sale I've been putting off. So, all in all, it was a good weekend!

Well are you ready to kick off the week with some great music?! Are you ready to rock?!

Tomorrow the highly anticipated new album from the Foo Fighters' comes out. Wasting Light was recorded "old school style" in Dave Grohl's garage on tape. That means everything you hear is authentic with no digital repairs. The album features various artists, and multiple instruments including Krist Novaselic playing bass with Dave for the first time since Kurt Cobain's death, on the song "I should have known."

Today's song choice is the first single from the album. I love the hard sound of the guitars and I can't get the lyrics out of my head. Hope you enjoy and have a wicked lovely day!

On a kiss, I thought I'd save my breath for you. Gimme some rope I'm coming loose, I'm hanging on you

Cure Your Stress With a Pill

Wouldn't it be nice, if you could just take a pill and make all your stress go away?! Yes, that would be great, but let's face it that will never happen. We will always have stress in our lives. But, there may be a pill that can reduce the effects of stress on your body.

Protandim is a dietary supplement taken once a day that in their words, "is the only product clinically-proven to reduce oxidative stress by 40%!" This pill has been featured on ABC, PBS, and in The Wall Street Journal. But, I didn't know any of that when I decided to try it.

My friend and her family have been taking it for a few months and she can't stop talking about how great she feels. Her nagging hip pain is gone and her varicose vein is getting smaller. She tells me her father-in-law has stopped taking his cholesterol medicine because of this product, and his blood test showed lower cholesterol levels.

Naturally, I wanted to try this stuff, but with some medical tests, I'm undergoing, I have to wait a little longer so I don't skew any of my blood results.

But, that didn't mean Bear couldn't try it for me! Bear has been taking Protandim for just over a month and he swears he feels better than ever. He has more energy, less pain in his joints, and he sleeps like a baby. The funniest thing to me is that he said his varicose vein seems to be getting smaller, and I never even told him about my friend saying the same thing!

I don't know anything about free radicals and all that mess, but I do know that my husband is a skeptic, and if he says he feels better, this pill must be good!

Now, I really want to try Protandim. With early onset menopause, chronic back pain, and plenty of stress, I definitely need something to bring back my inner youth!

My friend has now become an Independent Distributor for Life Vantage the makers of Protandim because she loves the product so much she figured she might as well make some money from all the people she has got started on it. Check out her site for more info including the video from ABC, and countless peer-reviews. This just may be the product that you've been looking for, and the product the big drug companies don't want you to know about.

What's my age again? What's my age again? (Blink 182)

Disclosure: I received a bottle of Protandim at no cost for my review. The words and opinions expressed are all my own. No other compensation was received.

TshirtPrinting.Net Review

When my girls were younger, our weekends were spent at the ball park. We went from Little League, to travel ball. Softball was our life. During those years I took on the role of  "Team Administrator," a fancy name for Team Mom but with the responsibility of taking money, scheduling tournaments, and ordering uniforms and other team items. This was not a "in your spare time" type job. It was very time consuming.

Ordering team shirts was especially time consuming because I wanted to find a good quality shirt, at a good price, but I didn't want our logo to be ____________, (insert any of the following: cracked, faded, running, peeling,) after only a couple washes. (Yes, all of those happened, and duct tape fixes a lot but not t-shirts.)

With my previous experience with t-shirt printers, I was a little skeptical when I was asked to review a shirt from TShirtPrinting.net but I figured if they want an honest review, I'll give it to 'em.

I have been wearing the T-shirt with the little monkey on it around the house for the past couple of weeks, (including 24 hours straight when I didn't get out of bed,) and it has gone through numerous washes, and has been put in the dryer for every wash. (Not something I normally recommend for screen prints, but let's face it, kids are lazy and sometimes their shirts end up in the dryer, so I figured why not test it.)

And look at it!:

It is as bright and cute as the day I got it! Not a single crack in the screen print! No peeling, no fading, no need for duct tape :-) I'm very very impressed! Tshirt Printing .Net, where were you when I really needed you?!   Oh, no matter, I have you now!

They specialize in custom printed T-shirts, hoodies, and work wear. They have competitive pricing and a fast turn around. They can put any design you want on clothing, so if you want your blog logo or maybe you've taken on the team mom job and you need team shirts, let TshirtPrinting.net give you a quote. Believe me, quality printing like this can save a lot of headaches!

disclosure: As part of the Family Review Network, I received a t-shirt for review. I was not compensated for this post. The words and opinions expressed are all my own.

Aloha Friday, Community

Tomorrow morning, my oldest daughter and I will be joining my Krewe for the Paint Your Heart Out Tampa event. The annual event is our chance to give back to our community by painting the homes of low income elderly within Tampa. I'm excited to be a part of this program, to have the opportunity to help someone fix up their house that wouldn't be able to do it on her own. I'm especially happy to be sharing the experience with my daughter. I'll be sure to post some before and after pictures so you can see the transformation of the house. Little pink houses for you and me (John Mellencamp)

It's time for Aloha Friday, where we imagine we're in the beautiful Hawaiian Islands with our feet up, kicked back, just taking it easy because it's Friday. My Aloha Friday question for you:

What do you do to give back to your community?

Ultimate Blog Party, Fashionably Late

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Did I make it?! Did I make it to the party?! Oh good! Everyone's still here! I was worried, because I'm so late, (typical) but it looks like everyone's having a great time, so I'll just make my way to the dance floor and get my groove on. Let's party! Turn up the music and let's hear those party hits. What's a party without music?! Hell, what's life without music?! Doesn't music just bring on the strongest memories? I hear a song and it just takes me back to that special moment when I first heard it. Or someone says something and it reminds me of a song and I have to sing it out loud. That's what this blog is all about: it's my life with a soundtrack.

Let's paint the town, we'll shut it down, let's burn the roof, and then we'll do it again (Black Eyed Peas)

So raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways (Pink)

Music Monday Teenage Daughters

Yesterday, I got a text message from my mother-in-law. She's finally entered the 21st century and got her own cell phone. Up until now my father-in-law has had control of the cell phone so to get to Mom you had to go through Dad, like a gate keeper of sorts. My girls love hanging out with Gramma and talking to Gramma, but they don't always want to go through their Papaw to get to her. So, finally, finally they'll be able to talk directly to her, (by talk I mean text because, you know they are teenagers.)

Today's song choice is Teenage Daughters by Martina McBride. It was a recommendation from my mother-in-law, by text!

It's like this song was written for me. I hope you enjoy it. I did. Thanks, Mom!

and if we're being honest, then honestly I think I need a drink

Aloha Friday, Strange Pictures

We had a nasty storm here in Florida, yesterday. There were tornados everywhere, and buckets of rain. Our tornados are not like Dorothy and OZ twisters, but they can still do some damge, and they did. There were tractor trailers blown over while driving, and tree limbs through windows, and plenty of power outages. In fact, my girls' school is still without power this morning. And, do you think they cancelled school? NO! I don't understand why the north can plan for multiple snow days, but we can't give the kids here one day off! It is expected to be 85 later today. In classrooms with no air? Not cool! (okay that's funny...not cool...haha)

With storms everywhere, even the wildlife was affected. Here's the little guy that was wandering around the gas station today. No, he's not on the menu for dinner! Although when I saw him I couldn't help but think that I need another trip to New Orleans! a jambalaya and a crawfish pie gonna start my day (Kid Rock)

It's Aloha Friday, time to ask you a question.

I snapped the picture of the Crawdad this morning at the gas station with my cell phone.

What's the strangest thing you've ever taken a picture of, or wished you had your camera for?
